TikTok bio optimizer: score your 80 characters
Adding it lets us check whether you have a link set on the profile, which changes how the call to action scores. It costs nothing and it is read from our own catalog.
The rubric, in full
These are the weights the score is actually computed with, read straight out of the scorer. Offer clarity and the call to action carry nearly half of it between them, because they are the two the character limit punishes hardest and the two a creator can fix in a single edit.
| What it measures | The question it asks | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Offer clarity | Does a stranger learn what you do and who it is for, without watching a video first? | 25 |
| Call to action | Does the bio ask for one specific action, and is there somewhere for that action to go? | 20 |
| Search keywords | Are the words somebody would search for actually in the text, without turning it into a hashtag pile? | 20 |
| Link | Is there a link on the profile, and does the text point at it? | 15 |
| Structure and emoji | Is it laid out in the two or three short lines a bio is read in, with emoji used as punctuation rather than as decoration? | 10 |
| Length fit | Does it use the 80 characters TikTok gives you, without going over them? | 10 |
| Total | Risk flags come off this total afterwards, and each says how many points it took. | 100 |
| Score | Grade |
|---|---|
| 85 and above | optimized |
| 70 and above | strong |
| 55 and above | workable |
| 40 and above | weak |
| 0 and above | needs rewrite |
What a TikTok bio has to do in 80 characters
TikTok gives a bio 80 characters and renders it in three or four short lines under your name. That is enough for one offer, one audience and one action, and it is not enough for two of anything. The most common failure this tool finds is not a bad line, it is a bio made of three decent lines that each do a different job.
The second most common is a call to action with nothing behind it. A bio that says link below, on a profile with no link set, spends its most valuable line asking for a click that cannot happen. That is why supplying a username changes the score: it is the only way to know whether the ask has a destination.
TikTok search indexes your name and your bio. A tagline nobody would type into a search box is a tagline that only works on people who already found you, so the rubric rewards a plain topic word sitting alongside whatever clever line you want. Hashtags are not that word: in a bio they are not the ranking signal they are on a post, and each one costs space a searchable noun could have used.
Contact details are scored as a risk rather than a feature. An email address, a phone number, a Telegram or a WhatsApp handle in a bio is the pattern spam filtering is tuned for, and it is the first thing an impersonator copies. The link field exists for exactly this and it does not carry the same cost.
Character counts use Unicode code points, which is what a person means by characters and what matches TikTok’s own counter for ordinary text. A multi-part emoji, a flag or a skin-tone variant can be counted differently by different clients, so treat a bio within two or three characters of the cap as being at the cap.
What this cannot tell you
It reads your text, not your audience. Two bios can score identically and convert completely differently because one of them names a thing its viewers actually want. No rubric can see that from 80 characters, and this one does not pretend to. Use the score to remove the mechanical failures, then test the wording against your own profile traffic.
The topic and role detection works from a fixed vocabulary of common niches and jobs. It will miss a niche it has never heard of, and when it does the tool says it detected none, keeps the placeholder in the templates and asks you to fill it in. That is deliberate: inventing a niche from one ambiguous word would put a claim in your bio that you never made.
It has no opinion on whether your bio is true. It can tell you that a concrete number would strengthen the line. It cannot tell you that the number you put there is real, and neither can the people reading it, which is a good reason to only use ones that are.
Frequently asked questions
How many characters is a TikTok bio?
80 characters, including spaces, emoji and line breaks. That is half what X gives you, which is why almost every piece of bio advice written for other platforms fits badly here. The counter on this page is the same function the score is computed with, so what it tells you while you type is what you will be scored on.
Is this an AI tool?
The score is not. Every number on the page comes from a published rubric applied to your text, so the same bio always gets the same score and you can check the weights yourself in the table below. When an AI key is configured the tool adds three model-written rewrites underneath, and the page says so. When it is not, everything except those three alternatives is unchanged and rule-built templates take their place.
Do I have to give my username?
No. Pasting the text is the primary mode and it works on a bio you have not published yet, which is the point at which it is most useful. A username adds one thing: whether you have a link set on the profile, which changes how the call to action scores, because a bio that says "link below" with nothing below it is a wasted line. We read that from our own TikTok catalog for free, and only fall back to a live profile read when our copy is older than 14 days.
Why does it flag emails, Telegram and WhatsApp handles?
Because contact details in a bio are the exact pattern platform spam filters are built around, and because they are what impersonators copy first when they clone a profile. Put the contact behind your link instead. The tool takes points off for them and says why rather than silently marking the bio down.
Does TikTok search actually index the bio?
Yes. Your name and bio text are searchable, which is why the rubric gives real weight to having a plain topic word in the text rather than only a clever tagline. It is also why hashtag stuffing scores badly: hashtags in a bio are not the ranking signal they are on a post, and on 80 characters each one costs you space that a searchable noun could have used.
Will a better bio grow my account?
It changes what happens after somebody lands on your profile, which is a smaller lever than your videos and a much cheaper one. A bio edit takes a minute and applies to every profile visit you will ever get. Treat it as removing friction from traffic you have already earned, not as a way to get traffic.

PlayerSells is not affiliated with TikTok. The score is arithmetic over the rubric published on this page and involves no model. Where a username is supplied, the profile fields are read from PlayerSells’ own TikTok catalog, or from a live read of the public profile when our copy is older than 14 days, and the result says which of the two it used.
