A typical post picks up 63 interactions against 2.2M followers, an engagement rate of 0.003%. Measured over 15 original posts, its engagement rate beats 19% of 21,185 tracked accounts of a similar size. That is a reason to look at how the audience behaves - reply depth, saves, whether the followers are recent - rather than a conclusion about it on its own. Posts are seen about 22K times each, and 0.292% of those impressions turn into an interaction. That is about 0.961% of the follower count, which is the gap between an audience on paper and an audience in a timeline. Posting runs at about 0.73 post a day over the last 30 days, though only 40% of days saw any activity at all. Most posts go out around 16:00 UTC, and Monday is the busiest day of the week. Of the 15 posts sampled, 100% carry an image or video, 20% are part of a thread and 47% link out. The account's strongest tracked post pulled 7.2K interactions, about 45x its own typical post. Recurring topics include #hatecrime, #stories, #tube.

Compared with accounts its own size

TfL's engagement rate beats 19% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (21,185 accounts, accounts of similar size (decile 10 of 10)). A percentile is spread evenly by construction, so 50 really is the middle of that group and 90 really is its top tenth.

On engagement per impression rather than per follower it beats 20% of the same group. When those two numbers disagree, the gap is about how far its posts travel rather than how people react to them.

Where this sits in the catalog

At 0.003%, TfL sits below the 10th percentile of the 212,270 accounts in this comparison. That places it in the bottom 25% band, which runs below 0.025%.

Engagement rate as a share of followers, across the 212,270 accounts we have scanned enough to measure. The axis is logarithmic, because the top and bottom of this population are about 22,455 times apart and a linear axis would flatten everything below the median into a single point.

This account posts most often around 16:00 UTC, and Monday is its busiest day of the week. The bars below are the catalog-wide pattern, with this account's own busiest slot marked. They do not show how this account performs at each hour: we keep one aggregate per account, not one per hour, so that measurement does not exist in our data.

Formats this account uses

Its own posting mix on the left, and what each of those formats does across every account we track on the right. Only formats where the effect clears our publish test appear here, so an empty row is a format we could not measure rather than one that does nothing.

  • 100% of this account's sampled posts carry an image or video. Across the catalog, posts with an image or video run 111% above the same accounts' other posts.
  • 47% of its posts carry a link off X. Across the catalog, posts with an outbound link run 41% below the same accounts' other posts, so a large share of this account's output sits in the weakest bucket we measure.
  • Its average post runs 447 characters, which falls in the over 280 characters band. Across the catalog, posts over 280 characters run 15% above the same accounts' other posts.

These are catalog-wide differences applied to this account's own posting mix, not a measurement of how each format performs for this account specifically. We keep one median per account, not one per format per account, so the second thing is not something this data can tell you.

A big shout-out to Customer Service Assistant Evangelos Bozidis at Euston station. 👏 While carrying out his duties on the platform, he heard a passenger shouting for help and quickly realised their leg had become trapped in a train door. Acting immediately, he stopped the dispatched train and safely released the passenger using the station's safety equipment. Thanks to his quick thinking and decisive action, a potentially serious situation was brought to a safe conclusion. Well done, Evangelos, and thank you for helping keep our customers safe. 💙 #TfLCares #CustomerService #LondonTransport

We were honoured to visit Tokyo Metro for the unveiling of a TfL-inspired roundel at Ueno Station. 🇯🇵🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 Our Commissioner, Andy Lord, and the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, joined Akihiro Kosaka, President of Tokyo Metro, to unveil the roundel. The moment celebrated a long connection between TfL and Tokyo Metro, which dates back to Noritsugu Hayakawa's visit to London more than a century ago. His experience of London’s transport network helped inspire the development of Tokyo's metro system. Andy Lord said: "Our iconic roundel is recognised around the world and is a symbol of safety and service that all Londoners trust. We look forward to visitors to Ueno subway station being able to see it permanently from next year as both metros continue to serve the millions of people who rely on them each day." We're proud that the London Underground is considered the origin of the Japanese subway and look forward to celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2027. *Photo provided by Tokyo Metro

Going above and beyond for a vulnerable customer 💙 Recently, Bus Station Controller Winsome was working at Harrow Bus Station when an elderly customer approached her window and asked to buy a ticket to Athens, Greece. Winsome quickly realised that the customer was upset and confused. After taking the time to sit and talk with her, she discovered that she couldn’t remember her postcode. Rather than simply directing her elsewhere, Winsome went the extra mile. She accompanied the customer on a 30-minute walk home, supported her when she nearly fell, and stayed with her until she knew she was safely home. When they arrived, the customer’s daughter spoke through the doorbell camera to thank Winsome for bringing her home safely. The following day, Winsome arrived at work to find a handwritten card and flowers from the customer’s family. She learned that the lady had dementia, and her daughter was incredibly grateful for the kindness and care Winsome had shown. Thank you, Winsome, for going above and beyond to support a vulnerable customer and for showing such compassion and kindness. #TfLCares #CustomerService #LondonTransport

I’m issuing a high air pollution alert for London on Monday 22 June. Hot, sunny weather and pollution from continental Europe are expected to raise ozone levels. Please help protect yourself and others, especially vulnerable people, by reducing car journeys and avoiding engine idling.

Today, we mark the 21st anniversary of the 7/7 attacks, remembering the 52 people who were killed and the many more who were injured. 🥀 We also remember the courage and solidarity shown by TfL colleagues, the emergency services and members of the public on that tragic day. Our thoughts are with the families, friends and loved ones of those who were affected.

What is TfL's engagement rate on X?
TfL (@TfL) has an engagement rate of 0.003%, based on the median interactions across 15 original posts from the last 30 days against 2,248,852 followers. Replies, reposts and quote-posts of other people are excluded from that sample.
Is that a good engagement rate?
At 0.003%, TfL sits below the 10th percentile of the 212,270 accounts in this comparison. Those comparison accounts are all large ones, because our scanning cadence is weighted towards big accounts, so this is a ranking among peers of similar scale rather than a ranking across X.
Does @TfL have real engagement?
Its engagement rate beats 19% of the tracked X accounts closest to it in follower count (21,185 accounts), which puts it in the bottom quarter for its size group. Ranking inside a size band matters because engagement rate falls as accounts grow, so a raw rate would mostly re-measure the follower count. It is a starting point for a look at follower quality, not a verdict on it.
When does @TfL post?
Most posts go out around 16:00 UTC, and Monday is its busiest day, at roughly 0.73 posts per day across the measured window.
